Larry Maj Hagman
Maj was born and educated in Sweden, moved to London and quickly made a name for herself as a designer consultant to many of the most well known fashion houses there. It was in London that she met and later married Larry. She excelled in her profession and was acclaimed for her work. In 1956 she moved with Larry to New York City and started designing couture for, among others, Jane Morgan and Tululah Bankhead. When Larry’s acting career took hold, she turned her creativity and business savvy into real-estate development and design. She is the original designer of what is now widely recognized as the “free form Jacuzzi” and was contracted to personally build over one hundred originals throughout California. Maj continues her work in design and real estate investment while serving on the boards and volunteering her time for numerous organizations. Maj has been equally involved along side of Larry in most of the charities and organizations they support. She has opened their home to numerous organizations for retreats and fundraising purposes including the New Roads School teachers retreats, the Ojai Foundation fundraisers, Ojai Music Festival fundraisers (where she served on the Board for two years), Ventura County Museum of Art and History, and the Rubicon Theater, just to name a few. Maj and Larry are devoted to causes that conserve and preserve the sustainability of the environment and make conscientious choices from the two energy efficient hybrid Toyota Prius they drive to solar systems that generate the electricity to run their home. They lend their support to organizations devoted to environmental causes such as Save Open Spaces for Ventura County, committed to containing urban sprawl and thoughtful and controlled development, the Solar Electric Light Fund, a foundation dedicated to bringing third world countries solar power.
